Type Locality: Fatehgarh (Ganges)
Rare, known to be distributed in Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir in India (Reptile Database).

The species occupies in freshwater rivers and lakes in its distribution ranges (Asian Turtle Trade Working Group, 2000). Trading of the species is a major threat to the species (Asian Turtle Trade Working Group, 2000).
