Type Locality: India
Common, known to be distributed in lowland of Indus, Ganges, Brahmaputra rivers basins, geographically distributed in Assam, Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir, Meghalaya, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal in India (Paschag et al., 2019).
Conservation Status:
The species prefers shallow, densely vegetated stagnant waterbodies, rivers, ponds, reservoirs and reed beds (Paschag et al., 2019). Recently, there has been drastic decline of 50% in the population and its habitats due to local subsistence consumption and illegal trading (Paschag et al., 2019).
