Rare, known to be found in Assam, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, mainly in Ganga rivers (Das et al., 2019).
Conservation Status:
This species is listed as Critically Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).The species resides in rivers and major tributaries, with sand banks, rocks and snags (Das et al., 2019). A considerable population decline has been observed, this may be because of subsistence consumption, commercial and illegal trading, water pollution and fish nets (Das et al., 2019).
