SPECIES PAGES
There are approximately 610 species and subspecies of Indian reptiles. They are all listed under the “Classification and checklist of Indian Reptiles” page. Presently only a proportion of these taxa have their own pages, which we will call "species pages". The main goal of species pages is to compile all the natural history information that is known about our reptiles, and to present it online for free to anyone interested in Indian reptiles. This will include information on identification, distribution, status, habitat, habits, early stages (eggs and juveniles), behaviour, threats and so on. A major component of species pages is a constantly growing collection of reference photographs of Indian reptiles. These photographs depict reptiles in nature, morphological and colour variation across seasons and life history stages. Eventually, we will also add photographs of museum specimens, which will show all diagnostic traits of the species.
Two ways to reach species pages: We are improving ways to search and reach species pages. Currently, the easiest way to reach a species page is to click through taxonomic rankings given in the "Species Tree" in the left column (under "Educational material" and "No. of species pages"). This way you can also see related taxonomic categories that you may want to explore. If you know the name of the species that you are looking for but not its taxonomic placement, search for the species page by entering the name after clicking onto "Search" in this box. The search box in the header can also be used to find species pages, but this is a more general site search that looks into content from all articles in the website.
