This species is listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).
The species occurs in scattered localities, in forest stream habitat, with impact of tea plantations (Asian Turtle Trade Working Group, 2000). Population status of the species is not much known yet.
Type Locality: Sylhet river (India)
Rare, known to be distributed in north-eastern India (Asian Turtle Trade Working Group, 2000).
