This species is listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).
The snake species occurs in grassland patches in Shola forests (Srinivasulu et al., 2013). A decline in the habitat quality has been observed since many years due to conversion of grasslands into Pine, Eucalyptus, Tea and Wattle plantations (Srinivasulu et al., 2013).
Type Locality: East India
Common, known to be distributed in Nilgiri hills and Shola forests in Tamil Nadu (Srinivasulu et al., 2013).
