This species is listed as Critically Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).
The species is aquatic turtle, associated with estuarine rivers with sand banks (Praschag and Singh, 2019). There is very sharp decline in the population occurred, which can be due to subsistence and ritualistic consumption, habitat loss, fishing nets, construction of mega-project related infrastructures (Praschag and Singh, 2019).
Type Locality: India
Rare, known to be distributed in Odisha and West Bengal (Praschag and Singh, 2019).
